Have you ever volunteered for a cause and experienced that sense of fulfillment and joy that lingers on for days? Recently, I had the opportunity to volunteer at a food distribution center through my organization at the Second Harvest Food Bank, and the experience was remarkable.
We were able to positively impact someone’s life by contributing as little as three hours of my time. It made me realize the value of giving back and how even the smallest act of kindness can make a significant difference in someone’s life.
Though years have passed since I last volunteered, the feelings of joy and contentment resonated within me when I get back into it. There’s something inexplicably gratifying about knowing you’ve played a part in making the world a better place. As humans, we have an inherent desire to contribute positively to society, even if it’s just in the tiniest of ways.
Benefits of Volunteering
This volunteering experience made me realize the importance of pure giving. Giving without expectation is what made it extremely rewarding for me. Because of that, I encourage everyone to at least give back in some way so that:
- You’ll develop a sense of empathy, compassion, and altruism, which will help you in your personal development journey
- You’ll experience pure joy by giving and expecting nothing in return
- You’ll expand your network and meet other kind-hearted people
- You’ll develop leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
